Long, summer days are here and it’s easy to let your normal fitness routine start to change. Even if your days have changed with summer arriving whether it’s work hours or the kids being out of school, it is important to have a regular routine even during summer. Below are some ways to achieve a modified, fitness summer routine without doing anything drastic to accomplish your fitness goals throughout summer.

The main thing people associate summer with is the weather. Summer has warmer weather than any other season, so take advantage of it!

Walks

  • With the weather being nicer, walks in the morning or in the evening can be more enjoyable versus in the winter. Push yourself and your family to implement family walks in the mornings or evenings to get some exercise, bonding time and to KeepMoving!. It’s a win, win!

Yard Work:

  • This summer, take care of your own yard work! Get some sun and grab that push mower to cut your grass. No need for the yard service or the kid in the neighborhood this summer! Be sure to use safety measures when using equipment and use proper form when picking up garden materials to avoid low back injuries!

Find activities you enjoy:

  • This summer, find an activity you enjoy and grab some friends to partake in! Enjoy golf? Head to the driving range or grab some friends and head to the local golf course. For added cardio benefit, walk the course rather than taking the golf cart! Like basketball? Grab your basketball and find the local park instead of inside in a gym! Pickleball is rising fast in popularity and courts are popping up everywhere in the city, no matter if you have never played or have played for years, it is great for everyone to compete and get some exercise. These are just a few examples of some activities you can enjoy, but the list is endless, just remember to KeepMoving this summer!

KeepMoving outside!

  • On days where the weather is nice, take your workout outside. Find a local park and use the link below provided by the YMCA of Greater Oklahoma City to find workouts that can be done at a park! https://www.keepmovingokc.org/videos/y-on-demand/

Remember, these are just a few ways to stay active and KeepMoving this summer. The most important thing in finding a routine is keeping it simple, stay hydrated through whatever you do and to enjoy it! It’s your routine, so make it enjoyable for you to stay with it.
