Spring Gardening Basics

Presented by SixTwelve Inc. at SixTwelve

All participants will be required to wear mask for the duration of workshop. Anyone not wearing a mask will be asked to leave.

Are you new to gardening or looking to brush up on some basic skills? Join SixTwelve as we share tried and true steps to growing a productive vegetable garden, in Central Oklahoma, using organic and sustainable methods. The information applies to containers as well as raised bed and in-ground gardens. While vegetables will be our focus, this class applies to herb, flowers and some fruit gardening as well.

Topics Include:
• Building healthy soil for healthy plants
• What to plant when in our climate and gardening through the year in OKC
• An overview of sustainable pest and problem management

The class will be a combination of information shared indoors via slides and outdoors in the garden.

$30 for non-members, $15 for members.

Kat Gant runs the school garden support program of OKC Beautiful. OKC Harvest provides weekly hands-on, garden based lessons that tie into Oklahoma academic standards for pre-K through 4th grade. OKC Harvest garden educators work hard to maintain school gardens as beautiful oases for kids all year long and integrate the gardens into the culture of each school. Kat has 20 years of experience within sustainable horticulture, including community gardening, farming, advocacy and teaching. She has worked on rural and suburban family-owned farms as well as at community gardens on the east and west coasts. Before joining OKC Beautiful, Kat managed a certified organic farm in OKC and developed the Employee Garden at Chesapeake Energy.
